Story goes that John's older brother William left home in the 1850s and moved to Arkansas. In the early 1880s, John and their other brother Thomas had also moved to Arkansas and connected via mutual relations. Both John and Thomas died of yellow fever in Cross County, and William brought their wives (sisters Margaret and Nancy Ball) and children to live with him in Greene County. This story is consistent with the fact that John's three sons as well as Thomas's are all in Greene County in 1900.
