John's property was on the southwest side of the falls of Patapsco River, now in Howard County. His plantation was near "Glenelg", not far from Ellicott City. Glenelg was named after the Glenelg, Scotland near the east central coast in land owned by the Clan McKenzie. Bequested to son Daniel 96 acres out of two tracts called "Hopson's Choice" and "Addition to Hopson's Choice," to son Moses 96 acres, part of tract "McKenzie's Discovery", to grandson Michael McKenzie Maddocks, son of John and Ann McKenzie, 50 acres, part of a tract called "Hopson's Choice", to grandson William McKenzie, son of Aaron McKenzie, 96 acres of "McKenzie's Discovery". A second version of this will states "the rest of my land, 96 acres, to son Michael at his mother Katherine's death."17 July 1758 Anne Arundel Co, Katherine Mackeousie, widow of John and Daniel, Moses and Michael McKenzie and Aquilla Randall post $200 bond to inventory estate of John. William McKenzie "over 21" sells 96 acres of "McKenzie's Discovery" to Greenburg Randall (husband of Aquilla McKenzie Randall). Both parties agree that 1/2 acre at the head of the great falls on the Patapsico (sic) River where John McKenzie and his wife are buried will be reserved. (This property is at Elks Ridge Landing, parts then in Baltimore and Anne Arundel Counties, now Howard county, where the three counties meet.) From the research of Ray Leidinger of Cumberland, MD Ray's notes state that John was living in 1694. His notes also reflect that John McKenzie, Jr. was born "from Virginia to Baltimore Co., MD and it also references St. Mary's Co MD. The notes state that he was buried in Elk's Ridge Landing, Howard Co. MD. From the notes of Philip J. Dietz, Jr. of McLean,VA: John McKenzie owned several properties in Maryland. "Hopson's Choice" in then Baltimore Co. and "McKenzie's Discovery" on the SW side of the main falls of the Patapsco River. Now in Howard Co., his plantation was near Glenelg, not far from Ellicott City. Glenelg was named after its namesake near the east central coast of Scotland in land owned by Clan McKenzie. His original will dated March 17, 1758 is filed in the Annapolis Hall of Records (Ref. B.T. #2, Folio 196) Hopson's Choice, 615 Acres, granted to John on July 10, 1716. References
