From the notes of Philip J. Dietz, Jr. of McLean, VA: Gabreil owned a property, surveyed for him in 1745 known as "Gabriel's Choice". It included 314 acres and was located between Westminster and Mount Airy, near Spring Mills. It was sold to Wm. Married Sarah Durbin at St Paul's Catholic Church, Baltimore. Documented record: (original form and spelling)1743 4 December Frederick (now Carroll Co) Gabriel Mackenzie "Gabriel's Choice" Liber LG 3E, folio 163. Liber EL or EO #6, fol 634. This tract lay southwest of Westminster on the west side of Mt Airy Rd, between tracts then owned by James Wells, Jr and Thomas Wells.1750 June Baltimore Co, Court proceedings: Ref: MD Hist Mag, Vol.XVIII, No.1, Mar1923: suit against John White for cutting down oak trees the beginning trees of Gabriels Choice standing on a plain near the Indian Road and on a branch of little Pipe Creek.1754 June 18. James and Margrate White deed to Gabriel Mackinzie, planter of Frederick Co, MD 50 acres called "small addition" for L14.1755 July 14 Gabriel and Sarah McKinsey, planter of Frederick Co, deed to Nicholas Rogers of Baltimore Co, third son of the late merchant Nicholas Rogers, 200 acres part of resurvey of "Gabriel's Choice" for L13 Sh16 P6 plus a share of the resurvey cost.1755 July 23: Gabriel McKinsey obtains patent for "Gabriel's Choice" in Frederick Co. MD Ref:MD Hist Mag, Vol XV, p357. in "The Old Indian Road". a tract called "Gabriel's Choice" surveyed for Gabriel McKenzie, 16 Sep 1743, is described as lying in Baltimore Co, MD, "beginning at two bounded white oaks standing on a plain near the Indian Road and near a branch of Little Pike Creek and running thence north twenty-four degrees west twenty-four perches, north 20 degrees West 56 perches, North 29 degrees, east 200 and 50 perches, south 30 degrees east 70 perches, thence a straight line to the beginning, containing one hundred acres." This tract surveyed for Gabriel McKenzie on 7 Jan 1755. Of the original survey 46 acres were found to be deficient in the older survey, which is not named, but which I have ascertained to be the "small addition" surveyed by John White, 1741 and later included in a resurvey called "Dear Bough", the resurvey on the original "Gabriel's Choice", and contained 314 acres. the greater part of this tract was conveyed by McKenzie to Nicholas Rogers on 19 April 1759.1769 June 28 Gabriel McKinsey of Frederick Co, sells William Buchanan for L65 80 acres of "Gabriel's Choice" with Gabriel's wife Sarah consenting.1772 April 7 Gabriel and Sarah McKinsey of Fredk co. deed to George Divilbiss, farmer of the same place, 147 acres, part of the original and resurvey of "Gabriel's Choice" for L310.1785 23 November Gabriel McKinsey and wife Sarah deed "Mt Pleasant" near "Gabriel's Choice" to Henry Hoover . Liber WR#6, folio 209.1787 Allegany Co, MD Moses, Daniel, Josiah, Samuel and Gabriel McKinsey and Ann Maddox (Mattocks?) are listed among settlers of the Deakus Survey.1792 25 April Frederick Co.
