Information on John McClelland
The McClellans had a family of eight children, whose names appear in John McClellan's will filed June in Will Book 2l, page 272, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. Their names appear here for those with a specific interest in the McClellan families.
- 1. John McClellan m. Sarah Lowery 1770. In 1775 or 1776 John and a group of militiamen moved down into Kentucky and erected Fort McClellan at Royal Springs, which would later become Georgetown, Kentucky. It was at Fort McClellan that John lost his life to Indians before 1777.
- 2. Benjamin McClellan went with his brother John McClellan but returned to Pennsylvania when the Indian raids became so bad. He later returned and took up land in Scott County.
- 3. Ruth McClellan m. George Galloway in 1777.
- 4. Elizabeth McClellan m. Samuel Galloway, brother of George Galloway. They were the sons of Elizabeth Galloway, who was murdered by Indians at the Great Cove.
- 5. Margaret McClellan m. Samuel Spence 1785. After his death she married Hugh Dickey 1795.
- 6. Sarah McClellan m. William Dickey 1786.
- 7. James McClellan's history is unknown.
