- A John Mason is reported signing 52nd on a document from New Durham, NH, dated 11 Apr 1749. This John could not possibly be considered old enough to be the John Mason in question. That Mason could be Father or another relation to this.
- There is an outside chance that this is the John Mason indicated on the 1790 Census of New Durham. Certainly it is not the son who moves with brother Gideon to Porter.
- History of the Town of Durham (poor scan) seems to show that on 18 Mar 1733/34, land lots were drawn by John, Isaac, and Peter Mason of eight, 16 and 25 acres of land respectively.
- Beginning to doubt that this particular John Mason is directly related to the same named person in the records of New Durham. The John Mason in New Durham appears to be traceable to a Mason family in Durham/Oyster River.
