JOHN first migrated with his family to Orange County, Virginia, in circa 1790. Then in circa 1802, most of the families moved about 130 miles away to Montgomery County, Virginia, where John was married to Prudence Grissom.

In circa 1806 the families migrated again, this time to Clermont County, Ohio. John "entered" land in Preble County, Ohio in 1812. He later moved to Rush County, Indiana in circa 1820. In 1840 he moved to Kishkekosh County, Iowa, with his sons.
