According to Mary Curtis in "The Antiquities of Laugharne, Pendine and their Neighbourhoods" the Lloyd family farmed extensive lands in Pwllgogan in the parish of Eglwys Cummin and were descended from the ancient Lloyd family of South West Wales. This ancient family were descended from Elystan Glodrudd (Brenin Rhung Gwy ag Hafen / King between Wye and Severn in the 11C) and Cadifor ap Dinwal, Lord of Castell Hywel in south Cardiganshire who in turn was descended from Rhodri Fawr, King of Gwynedd, Powis and Ceredigion
