John Lewis, Tailor. Know your Eynon and Related Families by Luella Grace Eynon Garton: She met a well-dressed man named John Lewis of fine character and a tailor. He came from Carmarthenshire but had come to Mountain Ash, Clam to live. They married 21 Dec 1864 in Thomas Town, Glam., and her age as 21 yrs. John was 22 years old and lived at Twynyradyn, Carm. Married by banns at St. David Parish in Merthyr Tydfil. He was a fine man and quite firm. He was courteous to the Mormon missionaries but told them he did not wish them to teach the gospel in his home. He was a strong member of the Church of England. He demanded that their children be reared in that church, but Catherine attended her own church whenever possible. She loved her husband but her heart was sad because of religious differences. John tailored many of the clothes for the Royalty. He sdid fine tailoring and was known as the Tailor. He was born on a farm, 7 June 1844? to William and Margret Lewis. William was a farmer and butcher. All of their children were born in Mountain Ash, Glam. They had 8 children. The 4 children who lived, Louisa, Alfred, David and Flora, came to Utah. The youngest, Flora, came with her mother in the fall of 1893, leaving their father, John in Wales. He died in 1895. He was baptized by proxy on 5 Sep 1916 by his son David. He was baptized and endowed with his wife and all of the children but two and in 1952, theese two were also sealed to their parents in the Salt Lake Temple. |
