Sept. 1651, nam. then in the will of her gr.mo. Hudson; and his w. d. perhaps the same yr. He m. next, Sarah, perhaps d. but perhaps sis. of Major Robert Sedgwick, wh. long outliv. him, d. 2 Jan. 1700, had John, b. 17, bapt. 22 Mar. 1646, d. young; Sarah, 12, bapt. 16 July 1648, d. soon; Sarah, again, 2, bapt. 19 Aug. 1649, d. soon; Elizabeth 26 Apr. bapt. 4 May 1651; Ann, 23, bapt. 28 Nov. 1652; Sarah, again, bapt. 20 Aug. 1654, d. soon; Mary, 12 Feb. bapt. 16 Mar. 1656; Hannah, again, b. prob. in Eng. dur. his agency; Rebecca, 5, bapt. 11 Dec. 1664; John, 20 Aug. 1668, d. young; Sarah, again, 30 June, bapt. 3 July 1670, d. young; and Sarah, again, being the fifth of this name, 15, bapt. 22 June 1673. No man in our country ever fill. more import. offices, nor with happier repute. He was rep. 1651, and some yrs. again, speaker in 1663 and 4, maj.-gen. 1663, as success. to Denison, Assist. 1665 to 71, dep.-gov. 1671 to 3, and, on the d. of Bellingham, Gov. 1673 to his own d. 16 Mar. 1679, aged 62. He had been sent agent for the Col. late in 1655 to Eng. whither his w. foll. him in June 1657, and there he cont. for the first yr. aft. the restor. of Charles Il. reach. Boston on 19 July 1661. In Aug. 1676, the king knighted him by a special grant, and he had sense enough to keep the letter secret for his descend. His will, made the day bef. he d. wh. was by the afflict. disease of stone, gave all his est. to w. but names as deserv. provis. three unm. ds., neph. Isaac Addington, the s. of his sis. Ann, and her three ds. Ann Moseley, Rebecca Davenport, and Sarah Townsend; desires his gr.s. John to be brot. up to learning, as was most felicitous. accompl. and on the d. of his w. the prop. to go to s. Hudson 1/4, and 3/4 to six ds. Of these Elizabeth m. June 1668, Elisha Cooke; Ann m. John Hubbard; Mary m. Paul Dudley, s. of Gov. Thomas, and next, Penn Townsend, wh. had been h. of her cous. Sarah Addington; Hannah m. 12 ,Sept. 1689, Thomas Davis, but she may first have been w. of an Allen; Rebecca m. 3 Nov. 1691, James Lloyd; and Sarah, the youngest, m. 17 Apr. 1718, Nathaniel Byfield as his sec. w.
