John “Jack” A. Korman, Jr., 84, of State College, died Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
He was born May 14, 1924 in State College, a son of the late John A. Korman Sr. and Malissa Bing Korman.
On October 7, 1948, at the Pleasant Gap United Methodist Church, he married Betty Jean Noll who survives at home.
Jack graduated from State College High School in 1942. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II from February 1943 to December 1945, when he was honorably discharged with the rank of T-5 Corporal. His service included both European and Japanese fronts with the 32nd Field Hospital Division.
Mr. Korman was an avid Penn State sports fan and enjoyed traveling. He was a life member of the American Legion in Pleasant Gap, and the V. F. W. in State College.
He retired from Penn State University in 1984 after forty two years of service.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Jay and his wife Sharon of Spring Mills and Kris and his wife Laurie of State College, two sets of grand-twins Jared, who is stationed in Honduras with the U. S. Air Force, and Lindsey of Chattanooga, TN; and Ashley and Andrew both of State College; a sister Dorothy Norford of Charlottesville, VA; and one niece and one nephew.
Friends will be received from 11:00 a. m. until 1:00 p. m. Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Mark D. Heintzelman Funeral and Cremation Service, 1034 Benner Pike, State College, PA. The funeral will follow at 1:00 p. m. at the funeral home with the Reverend Leroy Wion officiating. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park, 1032 Benner Pike, State College, PA
