J. E. Kirkpatrick refers to him as James Madison in one sentence and then as "Matt" in the next: "These were the parents of Sarah Cox my mother, and Eliza the mother of James Madison, your father. “It so happened that David, my father, and John, Matt's father, two brothers, fell in love with these two sisters, daughters of Benjamin Cox and Rachel, and were married to them at the same hour."

"April 14, 1892 -- Ursa, IL, Adams Co Newspaper -- SUICIDE -- One of the saddest events that has ever happened in this part of the country occurred on last Thursday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan McAdams, living two miles northeast of here in Lima township, at which place their only son, Clifton McAdams, a promising youth of 18 years of age, committed suicide by shooting himself in thehead with a revolver..his death occurring instantly....No cause is assigned for the rash out. He united with the church only a few weeks previous....by his gentlemanly deportment he had endeared himself to a large circle of friends..the funeral service was conducted by Rev. Elder Lloyd at the Christian church, Saturday, and was largely attended...during the great revival meetings at Marcelline this winter he gave his heart to the loving Savior and started out in a new life. The deceased leaves a father, mother, seven half-brothers and one half- sister and several other relatives, besides a host of friends, to mourn the loss..."A loved one has gone; And while his absence we deplore, One thought our sorrow shall beguile; For soon with a celestial smile We meet to part no more." Among those present from abroad were Mr. and Mrs. Kirkpatrick, of Elvaston, Mr. and Mrs. Jasper McAdams, of West Point and Mr. Mat. Kirkpatrick, of Canton, Mo."
