John was born Feb. 5, 1943, to Howard and Doris Kampf. He was a 1961 graduate of Grand Valley High School where he played basketball and ran track. He was the fourth-generation owner and operator of Fairview Dairy Farms in Rome, following his great grandfather John, grandfather Henry and father Howard. His love for family, community and agriculture was prevalent throughout his life. While operating the family farm, he served on the Grand Valley Board of Education for 12 years and served as a Rome Township Trustee for multiple terms. He was a 4-H leader with the Grand Valley Dairy Club for 20 years and was a member of Ashtabula County Farm Bureau, Ashtabula County Holstein Club and Rock Creek Rotary. Additionally, he served on numerous farm boards such as the Dairy Service Board of Directors, Farm Bureau Board of Directors and the Ashtabula County Soil and Water Conservation District board. After retiring from dairy farming, he worked at Western Reserve Farm Co-op and also at Fleming & Billman Funeral Homes.
John married Judy (Parker) on June 21, 2003 at Jefferson United Methodist Church, with whom he shared so many of life's journeys and adventures such as managing the dairy bar at the Ashtabula County Fair for 11 years. He loved attending high school sporting events, the annual class reunions, hunting, gardening, long drives through the countryside, visiting on the front porch and the serenity of a backyard campfire.
But most of all, John loved spending time with his family. He is survived by his children Paula Kampf of Cleveland; John Kampf of Jefferson; Seanna Butler of Jefferson, Lauren (Michael) Mathews of Warren, and Erin (Frank) Melillo of Warren; Brian (Cindy) Clark of Rock Hill, S.C., Kelly (Tom) Rittberger of Indian Trail, N.C., Brett (Amanda) Clark of Jefferson, Amanda (Johnny) Glavickas of Orwell, Ryan (Celeste) Walters of Ashtabula and Amber Walters of Cuyahoga Falls.
