Https://www.fleming-billman.com/notices/Doris-Kampf accessed 28 Jul 2018. Doris N. Kampf, age 96, U. S. Rt. 6, Rome Twp., died early Thursday morning at the Austinburg Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She was born June 24, 1922 in Painesville, the daughter of August & Emma (Zachs) Dreger. The family moved to Rome Twp. when she was six years old. Doris attended and graduated from Rome School, then married her classmate of 12 years, Howard F. Kampf, in 1942. Together they owned and operated the Kampf Dairy Farm in Rome Twp. for many years.
Doris was a former member of the Rome Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school and Jr. Church and was a member and clerk of Session. She is now a member of the Orwell North Presbyterian Church where she has served as Deacon, member of Session and sang in the choir. She is a former 25-year member of the Rome Grange and the Rome Candles Fire Auxiliary. Doris was an avid bowler for many years at Grand Valley Lanes and St. Angelo Lanes. She bowled in many local, state and national tournaments. She also enjoyed cooking, baking cookies and goodies for her family, sewing and crocheting. Doris made afghans for all of her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include three children, John R. (Judy) Kampf of Jefferson, William H. “Bill” (Donna) Kampf of Roaming Shores & Sharon L. Bebout of Rome Twp.; 17 grandchildren, Paula, John, Seanna (Jim), Lauren (Mike), Erin (Frank), Brian (Cindy), Kelly (Tom), Brett “Critter” (Amanda), Debbie (Jerry), Chris (Karen), Heidi (Brett), Heather (Steve), Tim (Janet), Diana (Doug), Kevin (Jolene), Patricia & Tara (Tim); 43 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Howard in 2011, a brother, Walter Dreger and a sister, Elsa Cook Robinson.
A special thank you to the staff of Austinburg Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care they gave to Doris from the beginning of her stay to the end.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 A. M. at the Orwell North Presbyterian Church, 135 N. Maple St., Orwell with Pastor John Gehring-Anders officiating. Burial will be in Rome Center Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Monday from 4-7 P. M. at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be directed to the Orwell North Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 127, Orwell, OH 44076 or Hospice of the Western Reserve, 1166 Lake Ave., Ashtabula, OH 44004, envelopes will also be at the church. ROME — Howard Kampf, age 88, passed away April 29, 2011, with his family at his side.
Howard was born May 11, 1922, in the farm house on Route 6 where he and Doris lived together for the last 32 years. He graduated from Rome High School in 1940 where he was a star basketball player. He and Doris were married on May 24, 1942, after attending school together for 12 years.
Howard was a member of Rome Presbyterian Church and Orwell North Presbyterian Church. He was a lifetime dairy farmer and a member of Farm Bureau and Holstein Club.
As an active member of Rome Grange, Howard and his wife took part in a number of activities, including taking 1st place in the county and 2nd place in the state Square Dancing Competition. As a 4-H Leader, he and Dick Huntington founded the Grand Valley Dairy 4-H Club which they led for years. He served on the Grand Valley School Board, and as Director of Farm Credit Services, Director of the Fair Board, including a term as president and a Director of Jefferson Savings and Loan.
He was a volunteer Rome Fireman and a part of the Roman Candles Auxiliary. He served the County Democratic Party for over 30 years, and received the Conservation Award from the Ashtabula County Soil and Conservation District.
He loved farming, the outdoors and fox hunting, winning numerous trophies and awards but his greatest love was his family.
Survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Doris (Dreger); sons, John (Judy) of Jefferson and Bill (Donna) of Roaming Shores; daughter, Sharon Bebout of Rome; 12 grandchildren; numerous step-grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Theo Kampf; sister, Wilma; and a brother, Raymond.
Service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 3rd, at Orwell North Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Sandy Seaton-Todd officiating. Burial will be in Rome Center Cemetery.
Calling Hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Monday, May 2nd, at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to Orwell North Presbyterian Church. Arrangements are being handled by PAINE-GUERRIERO FUNERAL HOME of Orwell.
