From The History of Appanoose County, Iowa, p. 511 (chapter on Washington Township):

Jennings, John P., farmer and stock-grower, Sec. 10; P.O. Moulton; born in Roanoke Co., W. Va., in 1826; removed to this county in 1853; has 240 acres of land, valued at $9,000. Married Miss Mary S. Howell in 1852; she was born in Bedford Co., Va, in 1833; they have ten children--William E., Elisha J., May E., Sarah A., Luella, Saphronia B., Cora E., Ettie, Silvie, and Eva. Members of the German Baptist Church, their oldest daughter being a member of the same church. Mr. J. has a well-improved farm, fine buildings and plenty of fruit of all kinds to be raised in this county, and has made it all since coming to this county. Visited his old home in Virginia a few years since, and says he is better satisfied than ever with his home here, and things, everything considered, Appanoose is as good as any.

  3. History of Appanoose gives birthplace as "Roanoke Co., W. Va." but there is no such county in the state of West Virginia. Roanoke County in modern-day western Virginia was founded in 1838, from part of Botetourt County.
