Is Hannu in Switzerland or Germany in 1733? John was indentured to a Sweigert and often used their name (fondly). Parents = Diel Imboden and wirde Elizabeth. He came with them to USA at age 16-17yrs. and died July 29, 1819 age 85y 9m 6d. There is also a John Swigart minister who migrated from Berks Co. about 1792 to Mifflin County as the first minister (Church of Brethern) to the Granville area (mentioned in the Cemeteries of Mifflin Co. in the Brought Cemetery report). See Brought file for John Brought, d. 25 Sep 1857 and buried in this Brought Cemetery). Coincidentally, that same Brought Cemetery report mentions an Abram Miller, minister from Dauphin Co., PA who died on his own farm near Granville. His daughter Catherine married the above Rev. John Swigart. Swigart died March 1832 aged 74 in Mifflin Co (more information in that report, but worth noting although not seemingly a key to Braught data ). One stone in that old cemetery is for Abraham Miller, Sept 5, 1803 age 45-3-6, who is very likely the minister mentioned here from Dauphin Co.

Listed in Hill Lutheran Church, N. Annville Twsp of Lebanon Co., PA. as "useful member of this congregation, resided here a long time (pg. 115). It was also listed on pg 115 that he had 13 children; 8 sons and 5 daughters and had His marriage to Elizabeth also recorded there, his death (buried there) and baptism of son Philip (July 1799). Other children listed in Hill Church records, as is wife death. Obviously there is some discrepency about details of his death there or in Mifflin Co.
Also see records from Ruby Driskell's Braught research in Idaho. She related that John arrived America with parents on ship Two Brothers (shipmaster = Thomas Arnott) at Phila. 15 Sep. 1752, according to Book of First Families of America. Her records also list most data of children here, but lists John's birthday as 22 OCT 1733, not 23rd. She was excellent genealogist, certified by LDS, and related to Braughts. Unfortunately, she died shortly after our acquaintance began and her records are likely with her son (lives in Idaho, Boisse?).
See 29Nov93 letter from Corinne Earnest on FRAKTUR; shows Sponsors of baptism by Lutheran Rev. Lochman at Annville Twsp, Dauphin (now Lebanon) County, PA were Johannes Imboden and wife Eleanora. The baby girl was Christina Peter, dau. of Christina (nee;Imboden), and Heinrich Peter 28 Oct 1800.
Also Fraktur data on Sallie S. Imboden, dau. of John Imboden and wife Sarah (nee:Seigrist). Earnest Assoc., PO Box 490, Damascus, MD 20872-0490. Because sons of this family usually had first name John (Johannes), it is tricky to keep these people straight. Also, Driskell records were not entirely clear, so there is some question on some details here (need further verifications).
1991 data of Marvin Louis Imboden (8 generation descendants of Johanes Sweickert Imboden; PA, 1753) shared July 1998 by Renee Jankowski varies somewhat from my earlier data ). See my files for this set of data. That data, however shows much extension of data on descendants of John Imboden and Catherin (Faunceler/Fenster). That report states that John ran away from his parents at age 19 and sailed from Rotterdam to Philadelphia on the ship Two Brothers, commanded by Thomas Arnot, landing Sep 15, 1752 indentured to Arnot for passage. Arnot apprenticed him to a rich farmer named Diller in Annville Twp of Lebanon Co.. On Nov 14, 1758 John married Diller's daughter Eleanor by the first Lutheran preacher ordained in America. PA records show that John served as private in First Company, Balser Orth , Captain of Second Battalion, Lancaster County Militia, 1781, commanded by Lt. Col. Thomas Edwards during the Revolutionary War.
Don Imbody (FTM) gives parents as Daniel Imboden and Elizabeth; Grandparents as Daniel Imboden and wife unknown.
One written history of the Imboden Family (shared by Renee Jankowski July 1998) claims the Imbodens were "a noble and distinguished clan" from Switzerland.
