Y. 1909 Page 123 - 124 John Hooker (Elijah 5, John 4, John 3, Samuel 2, Thomas 1), son of Elijah and Widow Susannah (Judd) (Seymour) Hooker of Kensington, Conn., born April 17, 1768, at Kensington; Married Sept. 5, 1790, Abigail Goodrich, born Oct. 23, 1768. She died at Kensington, Conn., July 30, 1794. He married 2nd, Feb. 2, 1795, Mary Ives daughter of John and Mary (Hall) Ives of Meriden, Conn., born Nov. 19, 1771, at Meriden. They removed in 1802, to Turin, N. Y., and from there in 1814, to Morristown, N. Y., which was then a small place with but a few houses but beautifully situated upon the bank of the St. Lawrence River. Here he built a large hotel which he owned until it was burned in 1823. He also carried on a general mercantile business, principally Canadian trade, and also was an extensive mill owner. He died at Morristown, N. Y., April 12, 1829. She died at Morristown, N. Y., May 16, 1842. |
