Comment from Cole's History, page 128: "He [James W. Jackson] married Margaret M. Hogshead, a daughter of John and Mary Hogshead, both of Monroe county, Virginia. John Hogshead was born in Augusta county, Virginia, July 20, 1806. His wife was born there also, December 7, 1807."

NOTE: need to verify that John was the father of the children listed on the 1860 census with widow Mary. As some records indicate that James Hogshead was their father. . . LATER: Found the 1850 census for these children which proves their father was John and not James. This does not resolve the questions of the location of his birth. Possibly the informant on his death record was not familiar with where John was born - especially so if someone other than his parents raised him.

John's death record at WV Vital Records say that he died 7 Jul 1857, age 50y 11m 23d in Monroe County, WV, and that he was born in Greenbrier Co. And that his parents were A. & M. Burdette. The Burdettes may have raised John, but obviously were not his birth parents. http://www.wvculture.org/vrr/va_dcdetail.aspx?Id=4731004
