According to 1912 marriage certificate he had been living in Toronto since 1 June 1911

Enlisted in the Canadian Overseas Expeditionary Force in November 1915. Address given as 14 Gerrards Ave Toronto. Previously had served for 2 years as a private in 6th Royal Scots.

Described as 5 foot 4 3/4 inches with fresh complexion hazel eyes and brown hair. Burn scar on chest and 5 inch scar on right leg front above knee.
