John Helfinger of Buffalo, b 1834 Germany; Private, regiment 21, company K, Enlisted April 23, 1861 for 2 years; mustered in same day; occupation moulder; died February 17, 1863 [just 2 months shy of his service being up!]

But, NY Civil War Muster Roll Abstracts, 1861-1900, 21st Infantry, A-J, 928-929, #536 (stamped), image 577 of 652 say this:

Died 1 Oct 1862, as corporal, at Armory Square Hospital, Washington DC of Febris Typhoides.
Remarks: Promoted Corporal April 15, 1862.
