    p 49 - JOHN HESS, son of Philip Hess, was born January 14, 1791, resided in and around Springtown, Pa., and followed farm laboring. He served in Captain Abraham Shafer's Company of Militia as First Corporal, and marched to Marcus Hook in 1814, in the same company with his brother, Jacob. He died September 11, 1856, and lies buried in Springfield Church burying ground. He had one son: George A. Hess.
