Will Transcript

In the Name of God Amen, I John Hampton of Frederick County and Colony of Virginia being at present tho weak of body, yet of perfect mind and memory do make and ordain this my Last will and Testament in manner and form following. First principally I Recommend my soul unto the hands of god that gave it hopeing through the merits of Jesus Christ my saviour to obtain Forgiveness of all my sins and to inherit everlasting Life and my body I commit to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executors hereafter named and as touching the disposition of all such personal Estate as it hath pleased almighty God to bestow upon me in this world I leave & bequeath as followeth.
In primis I will that all my Just debts and funeral Charges be paid and discharged.
Item I leave unto my Loveing wife one third of my present dwelling plantation and one third of all my movable Estate during her natural Life.
Item I leave unto my son William Hampton one hundred Acres of Land formerly purchased of Ralph Low Adjoining Murtey Handly's Lands and Corner thence a streight Course to a Line of mine towards Reilys including one hundred acres to him his heirs and assigns forever.
Item I leave my son John One hundred acres of land being my home plantation Adjoining Meason's Land including part of the improvements to be Lay'd of in ample manner as the Land will allow to him and his heirs and Assigns forever.
Item I leave unto my son Andrew one hundred Acres of Land to being upon my son John's division Line including part of the improvements to Parmer's Cabbin to be Lay'd of in ample manner as the Land will allow to him and his heirs and assigns forever.
Item I leave unto my son David one hundred acres of Land called the Devil Land being the former part of my Tract including the Rich Bottom and Watter to him and his heirs forever: all the rest and Remainder of my Moveable Estate after my Just Debts are payed I desire may equally be divided betwixt my six Children and Lastly I Constitute ordain and Appoint my Loveing wife Lydia Hampton and my Brother Thomas Hampton full and sole Executors of this my Last will and Testament hereby revoking all former wills Legacies Testaments and Executors heretofore by me made.
In Witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this 11th day of July 1751.

At a Court continued and held for Frederick County on Thursday the 15 day of August 1751
This Last will and Testament of Jno. Hampton decd. was proved in open Court by the Oaths of Peter McKean and Willm. Parkins the subscribing Witnesses therein and Thos? and Lidia Hampton the Executors haveing made oath to the same according to Law the same was admitted to Record.

  • JANUARY 17, 1743: 200 acres to [Benjamin] Borden was to be divided from land David Griffith had bought from John Hampton "Juner"; and marked as the division between Andrew Hampton and David Griffith; along Worthington line to Borden line. The possession of 500 acres by Borden is, "by virtue of a bargain to him thereof made by the said Andrew Hampton for one whole year of indenture," quitrents payable to the King. This John Hampton, Jr. would be the same as in ....1751 with Will which named wife Lydia, brother Thomas and sons John, David, Andrew and William (a minor).
