ROSS COUNTY, OHIO DEEDS: There are two deeds recorded in Ross County for John Gill and his wife Anna - in 1834 he purchased a farm, and in 1838 he sold the same farm. They are still in Green Twp., Ross Co. in the 1850 Census, but in Macon Co., IL by the 1860 Census. Vol. 29, pg. 155, This Indenture made this 29 day of August in 1834 between John Lance and Amelia Lance, his wife, of the County of Rofs and State of Ohio of the part of the first part and John Gill of the County and State aforesaid of the part of the second part, that in consideration of the sum of $280 lawful money of the United States...purchased the tract or parcel of land lying and being a part of the west half of Section 10, Township 10, Range 20, beginning at the east line of lands belong to the heirs of Conrad Braucher deceased, at the Marietta road, thence running east forty rods thence south eighty rods thence west forty rods thence north eighty rods to the place of beginning and all the state right title interest claim, all the singular privileges and appertenances to the same belonging or in anywise appertaining and the rents issued and profits thereof. Signed John Lance and Amelia Lance. Witnessed by John Bookwalter and Elias Hinton. Vol. 37, pg. 107: This Indenture made this 18th day of October in 1838 between John Gill and Anna Gill, his wife, of the County of Pickaway and State of Ohio, of the one part, and Jacob Hickle of the County of Rofs and State aforesaid, of the other part, ... in consideration of the sum of $500 ... parcel of land being a part of the West half of Section No. 10, Township 10, Range 20, Beginning at the east line of lands late the property of the heirs of Conrad Braucher, deceased, at the Marietta Road, thence running East forty rods, thence south eighty rods, thence west forty rods, thence north eighty rods to the place of beginning, intestimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals, the day and year above written. Juliana Jones on 11 Jan 1831 in Ross Co. is related in some way to John Gill because they lived 2 houses apart in the 1840 census. The family of Samuel Gill at Deer Creek, Pickaway Co., Ohio in the same time frame. Taking into consideration the way families often named their children after parents, grandparents, and siblings, this other family may be significant.
