My father, John William Gilkes, was a Charge Engineer at Wilford Power Station, Nottingham. He was born on 18th February 1908 at 46 Mansfield Road, Nottingham, a house belonging to Nottingham Brewery where his father was an engineer. John William married my mother, Freda Mary Smith on 18th July 1935 at St Paul's Church, Daybrook, Arnold, Nottingham. My father died on 29th October 1947 due to an accident at work. My mother died aged 94 on 28th March 2004 of Alzheimers Disease.
