Facts and Events
John Farrell was baptised on 21st May 1851 at Nenagh in County Tipperary. He was son of Michael Farrell and Catherine Mackey. By 1872, the family had moved to Dublin, when John witnessed his brother Richard's marriage to Margaret Reid. At that time he was living with his parents at 1 Astons Quay in Dublin. Margaret's sister Rosanna was the other witness. Three years later, on 27th June 1875, John married Rosanna Reid, by which time his parents were living at Castle Street and he had moved in with Rosanna's parents at 8 Lower Kevin Street. John and Rosanna went on to have ten children together between 1876 and 1889, although seven of the children died young - in 1911 Rosanna reported that only three of her ten children were still living. John worked as a tailor, which was also his father's profession. The family lived at 19 Upper Stephen Street in Dublin, on the southern fringes of the city centre. Rosanna's brother Michael Reid appears to have lived with them for a time until his death in 1885. John died on 25th January 1890 at 19 Upper Stephen Street, aged 38. Rosanna outlived him by 42 years. References
