Catherine Mackey's origins are unknown. She married a tailor named Michael Farrell and they had at least two sons, Richard and John, who were both baptised at Nenagh in County Tipperary. Richard married in 1872 at St Kevin's Catholic Church on Harrington Street in Dublin to a Margaret Reid. At that time, Michael and Catherine were described as living at 1 Astons Quay. Three years later, Michael's son John married Rosanna Reid (sister of Margaret Reid) at the same church. Michael and Catherine were described as living at Castle Street at that time, which is their last sighting found to date.
