The following is from the book Genealogical Memoir of the Family by the Name of Farmer who settled at Billerica, Mass.

They have an ancestor as Edward Farmer who is mentioned by Anthony Wood in his Athenae Oxoniensis, p. 62, and in his Fasti Oxoniensis, p. 39, as being the chancellor of the Cathedral church in Salisbury, in 1531, which office he sustained until his death in 1538.

Between him and Edward, of Salisbury, there were probably two or three generations, whose names cannot be given with much confidence, although it is presumed from Guillim's Heraldry, p. 310, that the name of one was Bartholomew.

Either he or an older John (perhaps his father) transferred land on 12 November 1604 in the parish of Ansley to Humphrey Smyth and Thomas Packwood.

John made his will 22 September 1625. The inventory was dated 20 October 1625 and the will was proved 17 Mar 1625/6. The will names his wife Elizabeth as executrix. He named seven surviving children in the will, only one of whom was married. Son John inherited the house and surrounding land in Ansley. Edward inherited the house and land at Twycrosse, Leicestershire and 10 pounds to set him up in trade. Daughter Hannah, and her two daughters, were to receive 12d. each. The other four daughters, Elizabeth, Patience, Mary and Lydia were to receive 16 pounds at their marriage or three years after John's death.[3]
