Information on John Ewing

John Ewing, the third son of the older William, in 1768 married Phebe Davison (or Davis), as the old records spell the name). He inherited the family residence and part of the extensive lands of his father, and there died May 5, 1822. His home was known as "The Grove" and there he entertained with a lavish Virginian hospitality. Feb. 7, 1786, he became deputy clerk of Rockingham County, and subsequently became one of the justices of the court, holding the position until March, 1817.
