The John Ebbott came out with this parents and arrived in Australia on the ship Gloucester, 531 tons on the 1st May 1852, it was 13th ship from England to arrive in the South Australia with government passengers in 1852. There was one birth and twenty-three deaths on the passage.
One of the deaths was John's youngest brother William Ebbott the youngest child at the time of the journey. William is said to have been buried on the banks of the Torrens River.
The whole family travelled together

After arriving in South Australia in May 1852 the family move to Glenuce in Victoria and then on to Faraday in the Mount Alexander Shire, finally settling in Chewton, Victoria, Australia.

- "Mr Ebbott, senior, as before mentiond, was connected principall with Chewton. This brother was conspicuously successful in poineering work. Wherever he went, he formed a new Methodist society, and God prospered his undertakings. He was a man who experience much worldly misfortune; once the bush-fires swept his farm, leaving him and family homeless; diease took his cattle, and continued ill-health added its distressing influence to his last days, but his faith in God never and he died in 1867, regretted, respected and beloved by all. His sons Philip and John, followed his example in their attachment to the Methodist cause, and the latter is now a leading man in the Chewton congreation."

William, (his youngest brother at the time died the day before they landed in Port Adelaide only a few months old) 23 other adults and children died on the journey after being ravaged by measles and sickness. The trip took 3 and half months in total with the family arriving on 13 Aug 1852

His sons John Ebbott of 44 Ebden Street Elsternwick in the said State, manager and Gilbert Henry Ebbott of Cordrington Street Sydney in the State of New south Wales manager were executors. "THIS GRANT is made upong the condition that no portion of the assets shall be distributed or paid during the War to any beneficiary or creditor who is a German, Austro-Hunargian, Turkish or Bulgarian subject wherever resident or to anyone on his behalf or to or on behalf of any person resident in Germany, Austria-Hungary, Turkey or Bulgaria of whatever nationality without the express sanction of the Crown and if any distribution is made contrary to this condition of grant of Probate will be forthwith revoked" Given at Melbourne the 24th day of November in the year of our Lord One thousand nine hundred and twenty J. Carter Registrar of Probate.
