  2.   Obituary.

    John R. Dunn, 81, of Springfield, peacefully passed away on Monday, May 30, 2022, at Springfield Memorial Hospital surrounded by his loved ones.

    John was born on October 27, 1940, in Cornland, IL, the son of Alfred Ray and Mary Jane (Laughner) Dunn. He married Sandra Pritchett on May 5, 1979.

    John was a graduate of Springfield High School. He served in the United States Marine Corps for five years. After the military, he joined the family business, Dunn Paint Company, which was later named Dunn's Home Decorating. He was also employed in commercial floor covering sales, construction projects, and was the owner of The Brickkicker Home Inspection Company. John was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and was a former member of Illini Country Club, Oak Crest Country Club and The Sangamo Club. He was also actively involved in the American Business Club and was a founding member/president of the Kiwanis Club North. He provided countless volunteer hours serving as a construction manager for Habitat for Humanity.

    John enjoyed playing golf, traveling, cooking out and having a cocktail with family and friends. Most recently he spent his time reading, watching western movies, and enjoying the home he shared with Sandy. John loved holiday gatherings and one of his greatest joys was spending time with his children and grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Beverly Sue McClanahan; and nephew, Michael McClanahan.

    John is survived by his wife, Sandy of Springfield; four children, Michael Ray Dunn of Sedona, AZ, Alicia (Tom) Haggerty of Fort Myers, FL, Charlie (Shannon) Dunn of Colorado Springs, CO, and Ashley (Chris) Barham of Springfield; grandchildren, Thomas, Regan, Case, Michael, Bella, Mason, Jaymeson, Benjamin, and Annabelle; two sisters-in-law, Sara (Mark) Schilawski and Sue (Steve) Phillips; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

    A graveside service will take place at Camp Butler National Cemetery on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Dr. Blythe Denham Kieffer officiating and military honors to be provided. A Celebration of Life will be held on July 26, 2022.
