Erasmus Dryden, first child and heir of John Dryden, graduated from Oxford University in 1577. He was sheriff of Northamptonshire in the 40th year of the reign of Queen Elizabeth, and again in the 17th year of the reign of James I. By the latter monarch, Erasmus was created 16 November 1619, a baronet. His son, Erasmus Jr., was the father of John Dryden, Poet Laureat.[Dryden, Bridget from stubbs.ged]
