John Diplock was born about 1806 and currently it appears that he was born in Sussex because the available records for all three people called John Diplock born at this time were born in Sussex.

• John Diplock from Barcombe, Sussex lived in Barcombe his entire life.
• John Diplock from Frant, Sussex appears to have remained living in Frant.
• John Diplock from Brighton, Sussex married Ann and they ended up living in Surrey.

John and Jane had five children and they were obviously a poor family as the whole family was living in a workhouse during the 1841 UK census. Most of their children died young around the same time as their mother. Jane died in 1842 and afterward John organised for their only surviving daughter to emigrate to Australia. It appears that their only surviving son ended up following a life of crime.

After Jane's death and the departure of their daughter to Australia, John moved across London and worked as a waiter. It appears that this move may have been to be near family as there are other Diplock's living nearby in the 1851 UK census.
