Alta Advertiser, May 31, 1907. A Veteran Is Mustered Out; After a Lingering Illness an Old Soldier Dies at the Home of Sister--John Diller died at the Paul Weston home on Monday of heart trouble, at the age of 67 years and 11 months. The deceased was born in Ohio in 1839. About eight years ago he came to Alta and made his home with his brother James, in the addition, until about three years ago when he came to the home of his sister, Mr. Paul Weston, where he remained until his death. He has been ill for a long time, but not serious until about two months ago. He leaves to mourn his loss two sons who live in Washington, Iowa, two brothers, Abraham Diller of Ottumwa, Iowa and James Diller, and two sisters, Mrs. C. Hunt formerly of this place but now of Granville, North Dakota and Mrs. Paul Weston. Mr. Diller was a veteran of the Civil War, having seen two years service with Company A, of the 15th Iowa Infantry. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock from the home with Rev. J. J. DePree in charge. The stricken family has the sympathy of their many friends. Lime; buried May 29, 1907 in Alta was a miner in 1860 Census, Hardin Co., Clay Township, was 22 years old. day laborer.
