A death notice in the New York Evening Post for 16 Oct 1841 identifies John Crolius as a Revolutionary War veteran, and brother of Clarkson.S1

    "Rev.Soldier died yesterday, 15th, John Crolius, 85y 10m. He entered the service of his country at the commencement of the Rev.War. He was at the Battles of L.I., White Plains, Volunteer in Capt. John Van Dyck's Co. of Art., at the Battle of Monmouth. He was a member of the Common Council of this city in 1799 and has filled many offices in this City until he retired from public life. He was the oldest member of the Dutch Reformed Church in this City. Funeral house of Mr.Groesbeck, 6 Allen St. Bro.Clarkson Crolius."
