Certificate of Disability for Discharge, Army of the Confederate States, dated July 28, 1862 - "Private Jno H. Connell of Captain Busseys Company (K) of the 27thy Regiment of Geo. Vols., was enlisted by Capt L. B. Smith of 27th Regiment of the Geo Vols. at Camp Stephens on the tenth (10th) day of September, 1861, to serve three years; he was born in Jasper Co. in the State of Georgia, is thirty two years of age, five feet 10 inches high, fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair, and by occupation when enlisted a Mechanic. During the last 6 months said soldier has been unfit for duty 120 days...I certify that I have carefully examined the said Jno. H. Connell of Captain Busseys Company and find him incapable of performing the duties of a soldier because of dyspepsia and persistent neumonia, I further declare my belief that he cannot recover his health in camp, and that his and the public interest would be promoted by granting him a discharge from service. - W N Aderhold, Act. Asst. Surgeon. Discharged this 2nd day of August, 1862, at Richmond Va, L. B. Smith Commanding"
