John Henry Conklin, son of Joseph and Charlotte (Ross) Conklin was born on 26 January 1845 in Reily Township (Butler County), Ohio. In 1863 he moved with his parents to Jerseyville (Jersey County), Illinois. On 25 September 1866 he married Jennie Kirby, daughter of Thomas and Rebecca Kirby, in Jerseyville. In 1900, John Henry was living on Bell Avenue in St. Louis with his wife, Jennie and children Harry and Helen. Jenny was born in Butler County, Ohio in September, 1843 or 1844. She died in 1911. John died on 4 February 1903 in St. Louis (St. Louis County), Missouri. His brother David died two days later. According to a letter written by their niece, Cora Conklin to her sister Etta, there was a double funeral for brothers John and David According to Cora Conklin, persons attending the funeral included her cousin, Lillie Beaty and either Mrs. or Wm. McFarland who brought “little Miss Elizabeth Conklin”. The relationship of Elizabeth to this family is unknown. John and Jennie are buried at Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville, Illinois.
