BIOGRAPHY: A History and Genealogy of the Comstock Family in America by John Adams Comstock Del Mar, California Privately printed for the author by The Commonwealth Press Inc. 1949 Page 5 John Comstock (John 2, William 1) born Lyme, Conn., Sept. 31, 1676; died 1747-8; married 1712 Mary Elizabeth Colt of Lyme, dau. of John Colt and Joanna (Smith) Lay Colt. Will of Jan. 8, 1747-8 of John Comstock, gentleman of Lyme, makes bequests to dau. Esther; to six youngest sons, Joseph, Christopher, Jabez, Abner, Levi, and Asa. Wife Mary and son John, executors. John Comstock, 2nd, and Samuel Comstock, witnesses. Inventory, March 16, 1748, of Lieut. John Comstock of Lyme, deceased, 3687 pounds, 01 shillings. John Comstock drew lot at Lyme town meeting April 21, 1702 John Comstock and wife Mary deed to Joseph Lee, March 17, 1736-7. Highway laid out at Barnes' farm, by land of John and William Comstock, Feb 13, 1721-2. Three acres laid out to John Comstock in Lyme, Dec. 15, 1729, lands of heirs of his brother William being mentioned. The record in C. B. Comstock's Genealogy that John married Mary Lee is obviously incorrect. Mary Lee was born Jan. 30, 1707-8, and therefore could not have had a son Jonathan in 1712. The Mary Lee mentioned married John, son of Daniel, (Family 37). The old Selden-Comstock family bible; examined by the author, records John Comstock's marriage to Mary Elizabeth Colt. References
