    John and his wife Evaline converted to the Mormon Church around 1850. In 1851 they moved from Grimes County, Texas to the Salt Lake Valley in Utah Territory, arriving in 1853. They settled for a short time at Grantsville in Tooele county, then moved to southern Utah to the town of Washington in Washington County. John died 28 May 1869 at Washington from black jaundice.
