John Alexander Cameron was the son of Daniel and Frances Cameron. He was born on July 12, 1852 in Benicia, California in an adobe house.

He was employed as a bookkeeper with Fordham & Jenkins, jobbing and retail grocers.

John was drowned when he fell over board from a sail boat in the San Francisco Bay on April 8, 1874. (The preceding information was provided by the San Francisco archives.) Following is a copy of an article printed in the Daily Alta California newspaper on April 10, 1874, Vol. XXVI No. 8775. (I found the article on the front page, 2nd column, 2/3 down.)
