    John D. Burbee, formerly of Niagara Falls of Nash Road, died on Monday, February 2, 2009 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence. He was 91. He was born in Niagara Falls, New York on June 6, 1917, a son of the late Raymond and Susan (Crosby) Burbee.He attended the former St. Mary’s Elementary and High School. He served in the U.S. Army with the Company L 174th Infantry and with the Headquarters Company Fifth Army during WW II receiving the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, the Purple Heart and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on March 9, 1946. On August 8, 1953, John married the former Mary Dengate in St. John de LaSalle R.C. Church. He was employed as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 26 years stationed at the Main Street Post office and retired from the LaSalle Station in 1974. Following retirement from the post office, he worked as a crier for the Niagara County Court for several years. He was a long time member of St. John de LaSalle R.C. Church, its Holy Name Society and the Knights of Columbus. An avid golfer, John was a member of the Niagara Frontier Country Club. He also enjoyed bowling.In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Camielle and Margaret Fornier; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Joseph, James and Edward Burbee; and sisters, Mary Hackett and Margaret Shay. Friends may call Friday from 2-4, 6-8 PM in the LANE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 9622 Buffalo Avenue, where prayers will be said Saturday 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 AM in St. John de LaSalle R.C. Church. The interment will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. Memorials, if desired, in John’s memory may be made to St. John de LaSalle Church Holy Name Society.
