Circuit Court Judgment Box B #35; Samuel Bunton Administrator Verses Bunton Heirs, bill filed 20 May 1817; Samuel Bunton, Administrator and one of the heirs of John Bunton Jr. (deceased), states that John Bunton died in the month of August 1810 without making a will and leaving as his children and heirs the following person's: Your orator, Samuel Bunton, John Bunton III, James Bunton, William Bunton, Robert Bunton, Andrew Bunton, George Bunton, Hugh Bunton, Squire Bunton, James Lyon and his wife Polly, William Brown and Elizabeth his wife, John Keller and Jane his wife. Biographical sketch: John may have had brothers and sisters, he had a half brother (Samuel Bunton) born about 1787-1780 in Mercer County, KY. Register of the KY. Historical Society Certificate Book VA. Land Commission 1779-1780; p. 34; John Bunton, Jr. This day claimed a settlement and preemption to a tract of land lying on Cane between the waters of the run and Harrods Creek, joining on the southeast side by Richard Hogan'sland at a sinking spring by the said Bunton's settling in year 1777 and residing in the County 12 months since satisfactory proof being made to the Court, they are of opinion that the said Bunton has a right to 400 acres including said settlement and the Preemption of 1000 acres adjoining and that a Certificate be issued accordingly. This was the location of John Bunton's Station in Mercer County KY.****The year 1777 was called the bloody year because of the large number of Indian attacks on the settlers in KY. John Bunton, Jr. and family must have been very determined to have come here during that period of time. They appear to have been very Clannish. They held no public office and stayed out of the public light, except to perform Jury Duty and Road Work which were required by law.****I believe that John Bunton, Jr. came to KY. from Rowan County, NC. I believe this because his older children were born there and may have also married there.****Mercer County, KY. Court
records dated 23 May 1791; John Bunton, Jr. Verses John Bunton, Sr. in chancery defendant did not appear; ordered that the defendant, on or before the first Monday in June next, convey to the plaintiff by Deed in Fee Simple, 400 acres of land, it being his Preemption near Harrod's Landing, and pay the costs of plaintiff****Mercer County KY. Court records 28 Nov 1799: On application of John Bunton, Jr., ordered that a jury meet on the first Thursday in June next at Harrod's Landing, where he proposes to erect a water grist mill, he owning the land on both sides thereof, and report.
