Submitter: Jacqueline Marshall Subject: John Brisbin 1781-1846 Message: Here are my research notes for my ancestor John Brisbin.

   JOHN BRISBIN 1781-1846
1781 Feb 18: John was born in Pennsylvania, the son of William and Sarah Moore Brisbin. He was probably born in Newton, Cumberland Co., PA where his parents lived at the time. Over the years of this search, there has been much confusion about his parentage. We often felt that he could have belonged to any number of other Brisbin families because they ALL had sons named John & William. Muriel Brisbin Morrison [MBM], Carlene Gardner C ohn [CGC], Marjorie Morrow [MM], Marjorie M. Mayrick [MMM] are researchers referred to in these notes.
   1) Our John Brisbin lived in Centre County, PA from 1800-1818. See entries in time line below.
   2) We have a bio & obit of his daughters, Nancy C. Brisbin Hibbard and Mary Miller Brisbin Dunbar as evidence that they were born in Centre Co ., PA. Their father, John Brisbin, moved to Kentucky, then Illinois, and died on the Applegate Trail in southern Oregon Territory.
   3) John Brisbin is named in the 1809 Will of William Brisbin, of Ferguson, Centre Co., PA.
   4) John Brisbin received a bequeath from the 1818 Will of Sarah Moore Brisbin, of Ferguson, Centre Co., PA. She specifically named her granddaughter, "Sarah of John". Our John's first-born child was named Sarah Moore Brisbin b 1804.
   5) Our John Brisbin named a son William Moore Brisbin.
   6) Deserted land in Centre Co. tax records of 1819 [MBM] coincides with information from his daughter's bio & obit saying John Brisbin went to Kentucky in 1819.
   7) He was not the John Brisbane, son of William Brisbane 1757-18 36 of Westmoreland Co., PA. That particular John B. was still in Westmorel and Co. in 1836, long after our John Brisbin went west. See NOTES William Brisbin, Pvt. 1757-1836.
   8) The John Brisbin, son of Capt. William & Elizabeth (Watson) Brisbin, went to Indiana and we have accounted for his descendants. See NOTES John Brisbin 1766-Jul 1837 d Madison, Jefferson Co., IN.
   9) List found in the 1991 Brisbin Research of Marjorie Myrick has the appearance of having been copied from a Family Bible. Sent by Jill Peterson, she doesn't know her Aunt's source. This list gives the birth date of John Brisbin & his wife, names of both their parents, and the names & birth dates of their 10 children. Because it gives many of the dates exactly as we have found them from other sources, and supports other theories we have formed, I believe this list to be a true compilation of the birth dates of the John & Mary Miller Brisbin family. It is of foremost importance that we locate the original source of this list. It is most likely the primary proof that we need for this family group and the primary link back to the parents of John & Mary Miller Brisbin. LOOK FOR A FA MILY BIBLE, POSSIBLY IN FRIEND FAMILY, OREGON.
"John Brisbin Son of William and Sarah Brisbin was born February 18 th 1781"
1800: A John Brisbin (possibly ours) is living in Centre Co., PA. [MB M] (Not on my CD census index)
+Carlene found records indicating a prior land purchase in Patton twp, Mifflin Co., PA. Centre Co. was formed in 1800 from parts of Mifflin, Lycoming, and Northumberland Counties. It is probably the same land, they didn't move, just a reorganization of counties. This land could also belong to John Brisbin Jr., son of Capt. John.
1800-1818: Presbyterian Church records, John Brisbin attended Slab Cab in Presbyterian Church of Centre Co., PA and rented a pew there. [MBM]
1803: Centre County Tax rolls, John Brisbin an unmarried 21 year old. [MBM,1987]
1804 ca: He was married to Mary Miller (b PA). We cannot find a prima ry source. Muriel checked Spring Creek Presbyterian Church (aka Slab Cab in Presbyterian Church) and found no record.
1804 Feb 9: Daughter Sarah Moore Brisbin was born in Centre Co., PA. M BM correspondence from Mildred Ogle of Napa, CA, a descendant of Sarah M. & Edward Durant. There are Family Bible R
