Frankly, the age of his mother at the reported date of birth for this man concerns me some, and I suggest some caution be used until added documentation confirms the correct relationship here. According to report from Doug and Marti (Braucht) Nelson via Deidre Cox Aug 1998, John first married Elisabeth B. Shurts 1 Jan 1900 at Des Moines County, IA (probably Burlington, IA area) and then wife #2, Sarah B. Benton. It may be the second marriage that produced son Leroy Braucht, born 10 Jan 1905 at Davenport and Leroy married Vera (last name unknown), parents of this Marti in 1951. One record I have indicates that John married a Belle, but both wives may have had middle name of Bell, so there are several reasons for caution with data here. In Nov 11, 1998 email from Marti to Diedre Cox, there is the report of her research in Warrensburg, MO where she found marriage data of her grandfather, John A. Braught and wife Sarah B. Benton. Her father had told her that her grandfather had been in a Marshalltown, IA Soldiers Home. Marshalltown Old Soldiers Home did provide them with documents stating that her grandfather had been buried there. In Johnson County, MO they found the grave of John's brother, Harrison Braucht and his wife Clara, with flowers on the graves.
