John and Ann Borton came from the Parish of Aynhoe, Northamptonshire, England, like Richard and Margaret Haines, and

John Borton paid 20 pounds and 7 shillings for land from the Indians, receiving a deed in 1679. John and Anne received a certificate of removal from Banbury MM, England, to Burlington MM in 1679. They emigrated to NJ in 1679 aboard the GRIFFIN, (not proven.)

Hillsdown, the ancestral home of the Borton family, originally contained 200 acres, and was located on the south side of Rancocas Creek below Centerton. It extended back to the village of Masonville. This tract was surveyed for John Borton on April 26, 1682.

July 28, 1687 - Borton, Bourton, John, of Hilsdown (on the south side of Northampton River; will of wife Anne and six daughters, names not given; sons John and William. Land on Northampton River and upon Burlington Island; owns 1-32 share of the Province, personal property; wants to be buried in the Friends' Burialplace at Burlington. Witnesses - John Woolman, Enoch Coore. Abstract of will from : New Jersey Colonial Documents-calendar of Wills - Burlington Wills. Came over in the ship Griffin in 1633.

BIOGRAPHY: To all Friends, or any other person whom it may concern:

BIOGRAPHY: Whereas the Bearer, John Borton, of Aynho, belonging to Aderbury Meeting in ye county of Oxon, doth now intend toleave this, his native country England, to go with Ann his wife and his family for the isle called New Jersey. These are to certify to all whom it may concern, that we whose names are hereto subscribed, have known ye said John and Ann Borton these many years and that they have walked honestly among us, living in the fear of God and in obedience to the blessed truths revealed in this our day, and have been of good savor to friends and neighbors in ye village where they dwell and alsoserviceable to truth in their place and therefore their said intentions being laid before us at our monthly meeting at Barton in ye said County of Oxon, the 5th day of the 3rd month 1679, we and other friends found freedom in ourselves to givethis testimony concerning them.

BIOGRAPHY: Ye 28th day of ye fifth month 1687

BIOGRAPHY: I, John Borton of Hillsdown, being weak in body but of perfect memory,have made this my last will and testament in mannersas follows:

BIOGRAPHY: Imprimis, I commit my soul to Almighty God who gave it me and my body to ye earth from whence it came, and to be laid in ye Burial Ground of Friends of Burlington

BIOGRAPHY: ITEM: I give to my son John that Settlement called Hillsdown, lying in the South Side of Northampton River, being in quantity 300 acres and somewhat more, together with barn, house and all other outhouses with garden, orchard, and all manner of improvements to whatsoever, except one thirdpart thereof which I give to my dear wife Ann Borton and five pounds a year which she will during her natural life and widowhood.

BIOGRAPHY: I also give to my son John, a two and thirtieth part of a property through ye county and one yoak ofoxen.

BIOGRAPHY: ITEM: I give to my son William the settlement fronting upon Northampton River northward, being in quantity 100 acres and somewhat more, with house, barn, garden, orchards, together with all manner of improvements hereinto belonging to my 3 lots upon Burlington Island and also 2 and 30th part of a property throughout the County, with one yoak of oxen.

BIOGRAPHY: ITEM: I give to my grandchildren 10 shillings apiece. All ye rest of my cattle and goods I give to my wife and six daughters, my debts and legacies being first paid, as follows: VIZ: one third to my wife and ye other 2/3 to be divided equally among my six daughters.
