The US census for 1880 for the city of Scranton in Lackawanna county, Pennsylvania shows John Benore age 47 as a carpenter and builder born in Canada. His wife Sarah age 43 shows as being born in England. Son George age 16 shows as being born in New York. Son Arthur age 8 as born in Pennsylvania, and son Francis age 5 as also born in Pennsylvania.

!RESIDENCE: Per obituary listing in unknown newspaper, John was born in Montreal. While in his teens, he moved to Ogdensburg where he received his early education. He came to Scranton in 1858 to work for the Lackawanna and Western Railroad Company. Shortly afterwards he then became a contractor. For the duration of the Civil War, he returned to New York state [where?]. He then returned to Scranton and became a general contractor and operator of a lumber yard.

!DEATH: Died at his home: 710 Scranton Street, Scranton, PA at age 83 of hardening of the arteries.
