He had an estate probated on 11 Nov 1698 in Anne Arundel Co., MD. John Belt, planter of AA Co. grantee of 29 April 1685 deed from Thomas Lightfoot, surveyor, and his wife Rebecca Lightfoot, the 300 acre tract "Belt's Prosperity" on the south side of north branch of Gunpowder River it being part of the 1000 and 500 acre tracts both called expectation. {Balto Co. liber RM #HS folio 123}. This land subsuqently bequeathed to sons Joseph and Benjamin. The will of John Belt Sr. of AA Co dtd 13 May 1697 proved 17 Nov 1698 leaves to eldest son John and heirs 200 acres and "Velmead", to wife Elizabeth in lieu of dower, dwelling plantation and 100 Acres for life. 2nd son Joseph and heirs afsd estate bequeathed to mother and 100 acres of 300 acres "Belt's Prosterity" at head of Gunpowder River. 3rd son Benjamin 200 acres, residue of "Belt's Posterity" To newphew Thomas Ramsy, eldest daughter Elizabeth, 2nd daughter Charity, youngest daughter Sarah at marriage or 16 years of age personality. Wife Elizabeth executrix and residuary legatee. John Belt is listed among the debts due estate of John Shaw of AA Co. 21 Aug 1674, and also in an inventory filed 15 June 1676 for John Shaw's estate. John Belt was a legatee of the estate of John Wheeler of AA Co. admion filed 1 Oct 1688. Some researchers believe he was born ca. 1645 in Lower Norfolk Co. VA, the son of Humphrey Belt. References
