Will of John Bellows, 3d, "filed" [written or probated?] 13 Aug 1772, mentions wife Sarah, son Jotham, daughter Sarah wife of William Eddy of Oxford, children of daughter Hannah late wife of Hezekiah Ward of Grafton, daughter Persis wife of Moses Newton of Stafford Conn., daughter Prudence widow of Amos Newton, daughter Mary wife of Joshua Newton of Southboro.

  3.   Note: Source:Peck, Thomas Bellows. Bellows Genealogy or John Bellows, the Boy Emigrant of 1635 and His Descendants confuses the wife of John the father and John the son as discussed on the father's page. A letter from the author to Almira WhiteS2, citing the younger John's will, shows that it was the younger John who married Sarah Johnson and the older John who married Mary Wheeler.

However, that is not the end of the mess. On p. 1, the Bellows Genealogy shows the younger John m. 1721 Mary Wheeler, m. 1723 Elizabeth Allen. On p. 6, it shows just Mary Wheeler, but on p. 600, adds Elizabeth Allen "probably a second wife" with children John, Joseph, Samuel and Ebenezer. Elizabeth Allen simply doesn't work with the correct arrangement of wives (the elder John m. 1721 Mary who lived until 1740-1, the younger John m. 1723 Sarah who survived him, so neither John Bellows was available to marry in 1723 Elizabeth Allen. No marriage record for Elizabeth Allen and John Bellows seems to exist, so the basis for asserting this marriage in the first place is not known, but since the will above doesn't mention these children, he is presumably some other John Bellows.
