Facts and Events
Name John Barnes
Gender Male
Birth[1] 17 Sep 1721 Hitchin, Hertfordshire, England
Christening[1] 1 Mar 1723 Hitchin, Hertfordshire, England

John Barnes was born on 17th September 1721, almost certainly at Hitchin in Hertfordshire, which is where his mother was from, where his father was living six months later and where he would later be baptised. He was the son of Ann Jeeves and a woolcomber named William Barnes. Ann and William were not married at the time of John's birth but were married six months later at Letchworth in Hertfordshire. Their marriage record says both were of the parish of Hitchin. A year after their marriage they had young John baptised at Hitchin, on the same day as his (presumably new born) sister Mary. John's baptism describes him as being "one year five months one week & five days old".

John appears to have been the eldest of three children. In 1730, when John was nearly nine years old, his mother Ann died.

In 1768, John was one of the beneficiaries of his aunt Elizabeth Bennett's will. She was his late mother's sister, and he was left £10.

John had yet to be researched after 1768.
