[edit] Will of John BanningIn the Name of God Amen. This eighth day of September A.D. 1757, I John Banning of Lyme in the County of New London and Colony of Connecticut, being at present in helth & of sound mind and memory thru God's goodness, yet advanced in years & knowing that 'tis appointed to all men once to die, I do therefore make and Ordain this my last Will & testament, - first and principaly, I commit my Soul into the hands of the blessed God who gave it me, in hope of the Everlasting mercy thru the mercy of my Saviour Jesus Christ, and my body to the Earth to be decently interred by my Executor hereafter Named, not doubting of the Resurrection of the same to life again, - And as touching the temporal Estate which God hath blessed me with, after my just debts & funeral charges are Paid , I give, dispose of, and order the same i n manner following. In primary, I give and bequeath to the children of my daughter Elizabeth, formerly the wife of Lieut. John Brockway, but deceased, five Shillings lawful money to be Equally divided among them, which is all they are to have of my Estate, I having given their mother, my said daughter, her Portion in her lifetime. Item. I give and bequeath to my grandson Thomas Dibble five Shillings to be paid out of my movable Estate by my Executor. Item. I give to the heirs of my son John Banning deceased, five Shillings to be paid by my Executor, and to be Equally divide among them, which is all they are to have of my Estate, I having given their father & them, their full portion in Land by deed of Gift. Item. I give to my son Samuel Banning five Shillings, which is all he is to have out of my Estate, I having given him his Portion, also in Lands. Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary, the wife of John Wood, one equal fourth part of all my movable Estate, that shall remain after mu just debts are paid & the Legecies above mentioned, to my son & Grand Children, to be hers and her heirs for ever. Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Hannah, the wife of Joseph Wilder, one equal half part of all my movable Estate that shall remain after my just debts are paid, and the Legecies above mentioned, to my son & Grand Children, to be at her dispose and her heirs forever. Item. I give and bequeath to my true and well beloved wife Mary all and singular her waring appariel, Household goods, & movable Estate, of whatsoever sort or kind, which she brought with her to me when I married her, & which she hath brought to me since, to be fully at her own dispose for Ever, that is to say, all such goods and movable Estate, which was hers, and shall be found in being at my decease, and also I give said wife the remaining Equal fourth part of all my movable Estate which shall remain after my debts are paid & the legecies to my said son, and grand children, to be at her own full dispose for Ever, and further I do hereby make, ordain, constitute & appoint, my son-in-law Joseph Wilder my true and sole Executor of this my last Will and testament, declaring, notifying and confirming this and no others to be my true and last Will and testament, for the full Confirmation of which I have here unto set my hanf & seal this 8th day of Sept. anno Domini 1757.
