Ward Family, p. 130, which lists John as a child of John Ball and Lydia Ward, b. 5 Dec 1755, d. 17 Nov 1849. However, the author adds a comment that suggests that the information on this family is based on an unnamed informant, and notes no marriage information (or apparently, locations data) was included. So in the face of a tombstone with a different death date (10 Oct 1849), whose age at death exactly aligns with the recorded birthdate, one has to doubt the authority of Ward's source. The John Ball of the tombstone m. 1801 Emma Wilcox in Suffield, CT, but no evidence has been found to confirm his parentage, in light of these discrepancies.
