"VIII. John (Bacon), born June 1651, the record says, but according to his grave stones in the burying ground near the Meeting House in the East Parish (of Barnstable), he was born in June 1665. He 'died Aug. 20, 1731, in the 67th year of his age.' " [Note: the record says June 1661 (i.e., not 1651) versus the calculated 1665. Typically, the record is assumed more reliable than age at death, being second-hand from survivors and subject to memory failings.]
